'Tracker's Justin Hartley Teases a Tense Family Reunion With Jensen Ackles [Exclusive]

Ackles will make his first appearance in this week's episode.
Tracker has quickly become one of the year's standout new series for CBS, and in a recent discussion with Collider's Christina Radish, star and executive producer Justin Hartley shared some exciting details about what fans can look forward to in the upcoming episodes. The series features Hartley as Colter Shaw, a skilled survivalist who delves deep into complex family dynamics alongside thrilling mysteries in a procedural, or case of the week, format. Reflecting on the creative freedom he enjoys with the studios, Hartley highlighted the collaborative nature of CBS, Disney, and 20th Television.
“Going back to CBS and the studio that I work for, Disney and 20th, they’re so open to these ideas. I’ve never executive produced a show before, so this is all new for me too. When I can go there and say, ‘Hey, I have an idea for Colter’s sister. I have a really wonderful idea for this particular actress, and here’s why...’ So, we hired this lovely woman, this friend of mine, Melissa Roxburgh , who’s just a fantastic talent. She comes in and crushes it. She’s on next week (for the May 5th episode). She’s incredible."
The casting of Colter's brother was also a pivotal decision, driven by the need for a strong actor to portray this complex relationship. “And then, when it was time to cast Russell Shaw, I was like, ‘We built this whole thing up. It’s important that we get somebody in there that is just a juggernaut. Somebody that you would believe because he’s gonna go toe-to-toe with Colter, in a good or bad way, and that you also believe is his brother.’ And I just thought Jensen Ackles would be perfect for it," Hartley explained. He was initially unsure about securing such high-profile actors but was thrilled when both showed eagerness to join the project.
What Can We Expect From the Expanded Shaw Family in Tracker?
Explaining the distinct dynamics within the Shaw family, Hartley highlighted the stark contrasts in Colter's relationships with his siblings. “Colter’s brother killed his father, so that adds a different dynamic. The relationship with Dory is strained for other reasons. It’s not like he suspects her of doing anything wrong like that, but it’s strained for different reasons,” he elaborated.
Hartley also revealed that his This Is Us co-star Jennifer Morrison would be making an appearance in the finale, and confirmed the return of several key characters, much to the delight of fans. “[Sofia] is coming back. Jensen is gonna come back. Melissa is gonna come back. There’s another leak for you. They’re all coming back,” he stated.

Perchè tanto lo so che poi ci andranno anche cose non inerenti alla band, quindi ho pensato che tanto valeva fare di proposito un topic unico dove poter mettere in generale quello che Jensen fa con la musica.

D'ora in poi potremmo postare qui tutto ciò che riguarda la band e, per non stare a fare ulteriori topic, anche tutto ciò che riguarda Jensen e la musica in generale, quindi anche esibizioni e altro che non riguardano la sua band con Steve. Radio Company is an American collaborative rock band formed by actor and singer-songwriter Jensen Ackles and singer-songwriter Steve Carlson.
Their debut album Vol. 1 was released on November 8, 2019. The album peaked at No. 151 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 18 on the US Top Rock Albums chart.
Their second album Vol. 2 was released on May 7, 2021.
In February 2022, the band announced they were working on a third album. Keep On Ramblin' was released on February 24, 2023.
They had their debut live performance in Nashville on December 19, 2022, at Analog at Hutton Hotel. On the 15th of June, 2023, Radio Company announced that the Nashville performance was being pressed for their first live album release. A 17-track double album, titled Radio Company - Live from Nashville was released on November 24, 2023.
Background
The band was formed in 2018 in Austin, Texas, between Jensen Ackles and Steve Carlson. The two artists have been friends for years and have collaborated previously.[6] Ackles and Carlson were originally roommates when they began writing together. In the past, the two previously wrote a song titled "Different Town" for Carlson's Rockumentary of the same name. In 2018, the two formed Radio Company in Austin and began writing their first album, Vol. 1, which was released later that fall.

Radio Company was formed in 2018 in Austin, TX as a collaboration between Jensen Ackles and Steve Carlson. The two have been writing and performing together for nearly 15 years. While roommates in Los Angeles the two developed a short hand in writing music together. Carlson’s award-winning 2014 rockumentary, titled “Different Town”, was inspired by the song of the same name, written by the two while traveling.
A few years later, Ackles and Carlson relocated to Austin, TX and decided to form Radio Company. The duo recently recorded their debut
album at the legendary Arlyn Studios. Other musicians on the album include Eric Tessmer, Chris Masterson (Steve Earle, Son Volt, Shooter Jennings), Bukka Allen (Jack Ingram, Ryan Bingham, Joe Walsh), Warren Hood (Little Feat, Lyle Lovett, Bruce Robison, Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely), and Brian Standefer (Ryan Bingham, Ben Kweller, Reckless Kelly).

.Ecco, infatti. E' anche che tutte le volte non sappiamo dove mettere le cose e ragioniamo in modo diverso. Come ora, per me era giusta metterla qui perchè non è stata pubblicata nel social di Jensen, mentre per te era meglio metterla nell'altro topic.
Conviene probabilmente fare una sezione dedicata e semplicemente usarla da ora in poi.

If you've been wondering when we'll meet the mysterious, potentially deadly old brother of our favorite reward-seeker, Colter Shaw, you are in BIG-time luck.
News dropped officially via Justin Hartley's IG page that Jensen Ackles -- yes, THAT Jensen Ackles -- would be joining Tracker as Russell Shaw. And the internet is going WILD.
Why are they going crazy, exactly? Because Justin Hartley and Jensen Ackles teaming up in an action-adventure series as brothers is just about the most perfect casting I've seen in a while.
And it goes far beyond the fact that they could actually pass for long-lost siblings.
Colter's journey throughout Tracker Season 1 has taken him across the United States, where he's helped countless people track down missing loved ones and even those who weren't necessarily looking to be found.
But while he's been racing around, saving the day and collecting his paychecks, he hasn't been able to outrun his past.
Colter's family and the questions surrounding his father's death have been fixtures since the pilot. However, the series has decided to keep it in the background since the early episodes mostly.
We haven't seen Mama Shaw since someone broke into her home during Tracker Season 1 Episode 2, and we stopped hearing about Russell's phone calls to everyone Colter knows a little while back.
But it was always obvious the Shaw Family drama would be a slow-burning affair, and rightly so.
Though, we were starting to reach the point where it was becoming forgettable.
But this casting news changes everything.
Ackles, fresh off his scene-stealing turn on the third season of Big Sky, joins the cast at the right time.
With only a few more episodes left in this season, it makes sense for the mystery surrounding the Shaw family to ramp back up, especially knowing there will be a Tracker Season 2 to help prolong the story or fill in any loose ends.
Not much is known about Russell to this point, as we've only seen him in flashbacks, where we saw the relationship between the two brothers was not exactly all that great.
Colter doesn't want to hear from his big bro. He clearly doesn't trust him, yet Russell seems rather desperate to contact his estranged sibling.
Ackles is a veteran actor with many credits to his name. While he's most well-known for his storied run on Supernatural, recent years have seen him join established series and immediately stand out while quickly appealing to the audience.
As previously mentioned, his role on Big Sky was the best part of the final season, and if you're a fan of The Boys, then you already know what Soldier Boy meant to that series and how flawlessly he jumped into the fray.
All this to say, the actor is familiar with joining programs already in progress and not only making his mark but also making it appear like he's been there from the start.
At this stage, the actor has done it all, with turns as a leading man, a supporting character, and everything in between. When his bell is rung, he shows up and executes.
One of Ackles's biggest strengths has always been his charm, and teaming him up with Hartley, another actor known for his captivating on-screen presence, makes a lot of sense.
Both actors have a lengthy history of playing one half of a complicated brother dynamic. Just saying.
Colter has been reluctant to speak with Russell, and he has a lot of built-up anger toward his brother. We've yet to see Colter get too emotional, but reuniting with Russel will surely bring a variety of emotions along with it.
How could it not?
With years of This is Us under his belt -- the series that probably boosted Kleenex's sails throughout its run -- Justin Hartley is no stranger to hitting emotional beats, and this should play well against Ackles's simmering intensity.
Both actors also have action experience if Tracker decides to lean into that action side of the equation a little more than they typically do.
It would be interesting to see the two of them have to work together reluctantly and then find themselves fighting side-by-side. That's something I would like to see.
There are many possibilities here with Colter and Russell, and knowing that Ackles is stepping into the role, it's easy to imagine many of them because he's proven time and time again that he's a multi-faceted actor.
Funny, serious, sad, a little mixture of everything, Ackles can do it all. Tracker will also be a fun playground for him to play around in.
Variety reported that Ackles will arrive for an upcoming episode, which is currently slated to air on May 12. Russell and Colter will team up to look for Russell's old Army buddy.
But with a casting as splashy as this, it's hard to imagine the character doesn't stick around for a significant arc heading into the second season.
It would be a mighty big shame if this truly was a one-and-done guest spot because you can't waste this kind of stellar casting.
News also dropped earlier this month that Dory Shaw, Russell, and Colter's little sister, will be played by Manifest alum Melissa Roxburgh. And the three genuinely do look like they could be siblings.
While Dory will arrive in the May 5th episode, we'll have to wait until the following week to see Russell and perhaps see all three siblings, along with Mary Dove Shaw.
A full Shaw reunion has the potential to be quite the explosion to close out what's been a very enthralling first season.
As the season winds down, only four episodes remain as of the run date.

UPDATED: Jensen Ackles is set to guest star in the CBS drama series “Tracker.”
Series lead Justin Hartley revealed the news in a video posted to his official Instagram. In the video, Hartley teases that they have found the “perfect casting choice” to play Russell Shaw, the estranged brother of Hartley’s character, Colter Shaw. As the video ends, Hartley turns the camera to reveal Ackles on the show’s set.
Ackles will appear in the episode airing on May 12. In the episode, Russell enlists Colter’s help to track down an old Army buddy. “Tracker” has four episodes left to go for its first season and has already been renewed for a second.
Ackles is of course best known for his starring role in the long-running series “Supernatural” opposite Jared Padalecki. The show ran for 15 seasons, first on The WB and after when it became The CW. Ackles then executive produced and narrated the prequel series “The Winchesters,” which aired for one season. Ackles recently appeared in Season 3 of the hit Amazon series “The Boys” as Soldier Boy, a role he reprised in the spinoff “Gen V.” He also recently appeared in the ABC series “Big Sky” and made a cameo on The CW series “Walker,” which stars Padalecki.
Ackles is repped by Gersh and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

‘Tracker’ Casts Jensen Ackles In Justin Hartley Series – Airdate & Storyline Revealed With First-Look Photo – Update
UPDATED with airdate and episode synopsis: Justin Hartley‘s Colter Shaw has found his brother. Hartley announced Thursday in a video on Instagram (see below) that Jensen Ackles has been cast as Colter’s estranged brother Russell on CBS’ drama series Tracker.
The network revealed Friday that Ackles’ character will be introduced in the season’s penultimate episode “Off The Books” on Sunday, May 12. CBS also released a first-look photo of the two brothers above.
Per CBS’ synopsis: “Colter is forced to team up with his estranged brother, Russell, who enlists his help to track down a former army buddy who’s gone missing after several weeks of paranoid behavior. The investigation takes the brothers into the world of Special Forces missions, shady off-the-books programs and conspiracy theories, all while they contend with their family’s past.”
The series, a strong ratings performer, received an early Season 2 renewal just weeks following its Season 1 premiere.
Tracker, based on the bestselling novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, stars Hartley as Colter Shaw, a lone-wolf survivalist who roams the country as a reward seeker, using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family.
The series also stars Fiona Rene, Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany and Eric Graise also star.
