With Supernatural preparing to end its 15-season run, star Jared Padalecki has had his next gig lined up for a while now: He's going to star in the CW's Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, titled Walker. But his costar, Jensen Ackles, is going a different route.
On Monday, Ackles took to Instagram to announce that once he finishes filming his final two episodes as Dean Winchester, he's going to suit up on season 3 of Amazon's The Boys as Soldier Boy, the original superhero. After Soldier Boy fought in World War II, he became the first super celebrity, and a mainstay of American culture for decades. The gig will reunite Ackles with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who's the showrunner on the Amazon series.
"When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment," Kripke said in a statement. "I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys."

With the release of the highly anticipated second series of superhero satire The Boys just around the corner, news about the third series of the Amazon Prime Video series has unsurprisingly started emerging.
In one of the most brilliant pieces of casting yet, Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has been unveiled as one of the stars in the third instalment of the show, jumping from one Eric Kripke show to another. Ackles is set to play Soldier Boy, the original superhero in the streaming drama.
Ackles shared a short video on his Instagram account to announce the casting, as he flicks through the graphic novel with the caption: “I keep wondering what I’ll do….when Supernatural finally ends this year, then it hit me.”. -

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s rumoured role in season three of The Boys will only happen if the coronavirus crisis has improved, according to showrunner Eric Kripke.
The actor, best known as Negan on The Walking Dead, is a vocal fan of Amazon’s satirical drama, set in a world dominated by a corrupt, corporate-owned team of so-called “superheroes”.
Since reaching out to Kripke earlier this year, talks have been ongoing over who Morgan could play in the third season of The Boys – but the current pandemic is posing a difficult obstacle.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com and other press, Kripke explained the logistical problem that might well quash all hopes of his Supernatural cohort Morgan making an appearance.
“We’ve been texting back and forth about trying to figure it out,” he said. “I will caution everybody that COVID could really screw that up, because he is a regular on another show.
“He is on The Walking Dead, so he could only come up for a couple of days. And if there’s still a two-week quarantine between Canada and the United States, that renders that impossible.
“So, of the many things COVID is screwing up in this world, a Jeffrey Dean Morgan role might be one of them. But if the quarantine is removed and a couple of things break our way, then yeah, we’ll try to figure it out.”
The Boys earned an early third season renewal long before the second even premiered, with Kripke hinting that the storyline could take inspiration from the US government’s response to coronavirus.
The second season begins airing on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 4th September, accompanied by a brand new behind-the-scenes show hosted by Aisha Tyler.
The Walking Dead has already faced major delays due to the pandemic, with its season 10 finale pushed from its originally scheduled air date in April to a new slot this October.

Jensen Ackles Signs Up For The Boys Season 3
Jensen Ackles’ first role after Supernatural will reunite him with the creator of the Winchester brothers – Eric Kripke – as it has been announced that he has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys for Season 3.
That sound you hear is a legion of Supernatural fans getting Prime Video subscriptions.
Before Jensen starts filming this series, though, he is in Vancouver where he has two more episodes of Supernatural left to shoot — the final installments of the show’s 15-year run.

The pick-up of Season 3 of The Boys was announced during their SDCC panel on July 23rd. Season 2 will premiere on Friday, September 4th, with new episodes available weekly through October 9th.
ABOUT THE BOYS:
The even more intense, more insane Season 2 finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own.
